The Ordering and provisioning application for small enterprises which directly takes user input and sends it to different interfacing application had lot of orders stuck at a point of time, I took lead to get the count of the orders which were stuck to as low as possible and worked with the production support team and my team to bring down the count to a considerable limit (70% Reduction)

Ongoing production issues were tackeled in the most effective way and solutions were provided promptly from my end. Some of my efforts:

1) There were several tasks in the backend around 7000+ tasks to be updated manually one by one for one of the orders which was not feasible. We provided a workaround and updated the third party database tables to get it working.

2) While investigating for some of the issues I found that the application I was working for tried to send the files to the interfacing application but failed because Connect Direct was down at the interfacing application side which even they were not aware about. I proactively informed them about this issue. They confirmed that this issue exists. Once they corrected it, all the orders which were stuck because of the same started flowing normally.

3) Many of the tasks were stuck with billing issues. I proactively pulled out many such orders and asked EMAS/SQM team to work on them on priority as these would have caused huge revenue losses to AT&T.

4) TableSpace Issue – Corresponding table was not getting updated for almost a year in the back-end database. This issue was identified by me and a standalone script was written to resolve the problem. The script was tested successfully and deployed in the production.

Code Deployment

One of projects was to build a process for the client such that it maintains the database whenever a file is processed with multiple records. In the application database there were many inactive users which had to be removed for security reasons and at the same time new users were to be provisioned. It was not feasible to remove these many users and new ones manually through the user interface. So it required automation. The objective was to deliver a script that takes the file as an input parameter and reads every line and takes action on the User ID, i.e. to delete, add or modify the ID in the database and keep the application up to date. The project was complex and involved several challenges, primarily being to improve the efficiency of the code. The code was required to be efficient enough to process the large amount of data. To overcome this CSV file was taken as an input for code and to handle all the database transactions. The challenges involved in the project sharpened my skills working in Shell scripting and DBMS in UNIX environment and at the same time, delivering such projects in a time constrained business environment developed strong project management skills within me. The functionality was tested and deployed successfully.
